|Pirate and Princess Party
Sandcastles transformed into a Princess Palace and Pirate Ship on Wednesday 31st August as we celebrated the end of summer. Children and staff dressed for the occasion and many beautiful princesses and handsome pirates enjoyed a fun filled day with activities including games such as kiss the frog (to catch a prince), baking yummy vanilla cupcakes decorated with pirate and princess motifs, making masks, swords, treasure maps and pirate and princess passports.
Everyone tucked in to pretty Polly crumble and sparkly delight for lunch and pre-school enjoyed a princess tea party with pink tea and bite size buns and sandwiches in the afternoon. A great day enjoyed by all.

|Teddy Bears Picnic
On Friday 8th July we held a teddy bears picnic. Everyone brought in one of their favourite teddies (and it was difficult for some to decide which ONE to bring) and we all enjoyed a buffet style lunch of sandwiches, cold meats and crudités.

On a bright July Wednesday Morning Sandcastles children arrived to see a wonderful surprise in the toddler play ground. Ronan from Cromore Castles had kindly left a soft play trailer for all the children to enjoy. As you can see from the photos the children had lots of fun (and the staff too might I add).

Twelve boys and girls from Pre-school graduated Sandcastles Day Nursery this summer and are heading off on the next chapter of their education to several local primary schools. All of pre-school celebrated this major milestone with several fancy dress parties and each graduate received a Pre-School diploma and photo.

|Hats and Shades
In June we held a hats and shades day in aid of Northern Ireland Cancer Fund for children. While the weather was not sunny it did not dampen the fun day we enjoyed with children making their own funky glasses and hats and learning about staying safe in the sun through games and worksheets. A total of £427.50 was raised for NICFC.

Once a year a very special man comes to visit nursery for the last day before we close for Christmas. Santa's party is always a thoroughly fun day when all parents and all children get the opportunity to mingle and meet Santa in our grotto. In 2010 we were treated to a puppet show and the Pre-school children and Afterschool children kindly led us in carol singing before everyone got mince pies and mulled chilled wine Non alcoholic of course) Click here to view the Christmas Gallery
Our Gruffalo party was a great success as The Gruffalo is one of our favourite books in Sandcastles amongst staff and children alike. We had pin the tail on the Gruffalo, we planted our own red nose seeds, made Gruffalo buns and had a very special Gruffalo themed lunch to name a few things. Afterschool children recently completed a term learning all about recycling and its importance and since then the nursery has gone eco friendly and After school children got the opportunity to go to the recycling plant to leave old Christmas cards, milk cartons, and glasses. Sandcastles believe that it is important that children realise how fortunate they are and that there are other children and adults who are less well off. This is why each year we support different charities by holding fundraising events. In the past we have wore Jeans for Genes Day, had a PJ party for Pudsey, Mad Hatters Day, Shoe box Appeal for Operation Christmas Child, collected old clothes for Al-tex , held a fancy dress party for comic relief and most recently we held a Gruffalo party for comic relief.
At Sandcastles we love to celebrate each child's birthday. This is an important milestone for them (not to mention one of the most exciting events to happen to them each year). We celebrate with the children by singing and having a party atmosphere. A lot of parents bring in a birthday cake for sharing at breaktime.Click here to view the Birthdays Gallery
