Lynn Mc Conaghie
Toddlers Room

Hello I'm Lynn McConaghie, I have been working in Sandcastles since August 2007, I started as a Nursery Assistant and after a couple of years became a Supervisor. I have my NVQ Level 2 and 3 in Childcare and since beginning my training in childcare in 2004 I have attended various work related courses including First Aid, Fire Warden Training, Diversity in Play and Child Protection. I feel it is very important to keep learning and have more constructive knowledge to bring to every day nursery life. Sandcastles have accommodated me with all my training over the last few years.

I am a mother of two and I feel this is the greatest training in childcare I can have!! Both my son and daughter attend Sandcastles so I totally understand how it can be leaving your child with others. As a mother I have a good understanding of children's needs, but also a good understanding of parents needs too. It is very important to have a good relationship with parents so please don't hesitate to speak to myself about anything.

The Young Toddler Room is a great room to work in! It's brilliant watching the kids grow into Toddlers. Helping them to walk, teaching them songs, and helping them become more independent (i.e. feeding themselves) and having lots of fun with them! These are just a few of the reasons why it is so great.

In my spare time I enjoy spending time with my children and husband. We love spending days at the park or out for big walks. My hobbies are socializing with my friends and family, walking, shopping and going to the cinema.

Alison Young

Hi my name is Alison Young and I went to Ballymoney High School where I started my childcare experience as I studied Child Development there and enjoyed the course so much that I knew what I wanted to do when I left school. I left there in May 2006 and went on to do my Level 2 in Early Years at Ballymoney tech. during that time I did a one day a week and a block placement at Ballymoney Model School. I was in the speech and language class which was very rewarding and enjoyable. The children had Autism, Dyslexia etc so it taught me loads in all different areas. After my year there I went on to do my Level 3 in Early Years at Joblink. I have completed my qualification now. While doing that I started my placement in Sandcastles and since then I am now a full time Nursery Assistant and am covering maternity leave as Supervisor of the Young Toddler room. It has been really enjoyable and a great experience so far.

As well as my Level 2 & 3 in Early Years and Education my qualifications include; Manual Handling in Children, First Aid, Food Hygiene & Fire Training.

Outside of work I teach Sunday school, help at Junior Youth Club and do Crèche at my church. I have also been to Romania 4 times and am planning my 5th trip in July 2011 to help out at an orphanage and a centre for physically and mentally handicapped children. I also will be visiting families who have no food etc and working with the homeless. I love Romania and the work that The Smiles Foundation are doing.

I love working in the young toddlers room because I love to watch them grow, help them learn to walk and see their wee personalities start to come out more and more. They are so funny to watch and listen to as they start to talk.

When I'm at home and not at work I also enjoy doing things with my family and friends like going to the cinema, eating out, shopping and horse riding.

Catherine Brown

Hello my name is Catherine Brown; I went to Ballymoney High School and studied GCSE Child Development among other subjects. I then attended Northern Regional College where I completed a two year BTEC course in Child Care, Learning and Development. During that time a worked in various schools and nurseries as part of my work placement. This helped me gain a lot of experience with a range of different age groups. In addition to this, I completed a work placement at a skiing resort in Geneva, where my duty was to look after young families during the day, whilst their parents were skiing.

I began employment in Sandcastles in October 2009 where I worked in the after schools room. I loved being able to chat to the children and getting to know their individual personalities. I thought it was great taking children out on trips such as to the park and to the cinema. It was great watching the children having fun and interacting with other children. I also enjoyed helping the children with their home works everyday.

After 14 months working there I am now working in the Young Toddler room. I absolutely love this age group as I love being able to care and look after the children. I find the children so comical and I love playing and talking to them. I feel I work well as part of a team. I am very easy going and I love to help out where I am needed.

I wanted to help raise money for a worthwhile charity, so I decided to participate in the Belfast Marathon in May 2010 with others from Sandcastles. Our chosen charity was 'Make a Wish Foundation' for children. My other hobbies include meeting up with friends in my spare time, going for walks and reading lots of books!

Lynsey Elliot
Young Toddlers

Hello my name is Lynsey Elliot and I am 25yrs old. I have worked in Sandcastles for almost 6yrs as a nursery assistant and thoroughly enjoy my job.

I studied at Ballymoney High School until the age of 16 before moving to Coleraine Tech to complete a Btec National Diploma in Social Care. During my Btec I did one day placement at various schools and nursing homes including Ballymoney Model School, and The Model Nursing Home. I have always had a passion to work with children in a care setting.

During my 6yrs in Sandcastles I have worked in all the rooms at various times which helps me to bond with all the children and parents and form a relationship of trust with them.

I have recently become a first time mum to a beautiful baby boy called Lewis and I thoroughly enjoy the experience of being a mummy. When I'm not a work I enjoy shopping, going out for a walk, line dancing and when my husband gets me talked into it stockcar racing!!

Lynsey Capper

Hello my name is Lynsey Capper and I was born on 23/06/1990. I went to Ballymoney High School where I left in 2006 to go onto Ballymoney Tech to study Childcare Learning and Development Level 2. When I was at tech I went to a placement one day a week to Carrowreagh Primary School. I worked with P1, P2, & P5 classes. During my time at the Primary school I learned a lot about the way kids think and how they learn, and really enjoyed my time with them.

I started in Sandcastles in 2007 and have really enjoyed my time here. It is in Sandcastles where I completed my Childcare Level 3 which has allowed me to get invaluable hands on experience.

I also attended a Play Course that reminded me how such a simple thing like a cardboard box could be turned into so many different things that children could play with.

I love working in young toddlers because of the activities we get to do with the children such as water play and oblique dough especially because they don't know about the texture and some of the faces they pull are so funny. I love the fact they are learning new things everyday and that they are starting to talk.

I enjoy working in Sandcastles because I like working as part of a team, I listen to any advice given to me and use my own initiative to help in the day to day running of the room.

The thing that I do most on my weekends is going to stock car races and when that season is over then I usually spend my time going to the cinema or bowling or just being with my friends or my husband.
