Tiny Tots Room.
Our Tiny Tots room is a spacious area which is well lit, has both a carpeted area and wooden area and incorporates low level windows on two sides to allow the younger and older tiny tots the opportunity to look out and watch the environment as it changes through the seasons and the wildlife which come to visit including our resident squirrel!!!!
This room caters for children aged 0-2 years with an adult child ratio of 1:3. As children of this age range develop significantly during these early years we have divided our development plans into 2 age groups; Babies aged 0-1 and young toddlers aged 1-2.
Year 1 (0-1)
The babies enjoy a variety of carpet based play with emphasis on reaching and achieving milestones, such as crawling, walking and social interaction. This is all achieved through close interaction with staff, song time, story time and engaging in fun activities.
Enthusiastic staff quickly establish a close bond with the children in their care, spending time with each child individually, getting to know them and how best to stimulate them so they reach their potential in the best way possible. This promotes a sense of belonging, self worth which therefore develops confidence in each child so they can grow and develop their own individual needs accordingly. While we promote a daily structure and we understand the importance of routine we constantly observe the needs of the children in our care and take cue from them when planning daily activities.
Year 2 (1-2)
The young toddlers are now ready for a more varied development plan and can incorporate a range of different activities to promote the areas of learning. This is done through a bimonthly theme to stimulate their physical, intellectual, social, creative and emotional growth.
Daily opportunities for engaging in physical activities both indoor and outdoor offer a chance for children to develop their gross motor skills whilst learning to gain muscle control, and enhancing cross lateral movement. Toys and equipment have been chosen deliberately to inspire and encourage each child's learning and promotes among other things hand to eye co-ordination, concentration, reasoning and language skills, and early mathematical and scientific concepts.
Sensory based activities play a large part of development in this age group. For example it teaches children early mathematical and scientific skills such as shape, texture and temperature. It also provides a means for a child to express how they are feeling. This is done by offering activities such as water play, sand play, painting and even body painting. We find children of this age enjoy playing with treasure baskets which may incorporate natural materials from around the home and environment in which we live such as wooden spoons, clothes pegs, feathers, fur cones and dry store cupboard ingredients.
As sleep is an important part of development within this age group we offer a chance to relax in our specially designed sleep room with individual cots and lullaby music allowing children to relax and re energise before they begin another session of learning. If you do not wish your child to sleep in a cot we have a quiet area within the room equipped with blankets, cushions, mattresses so your child can rest when required.
